We needed some feedback from the machine and something to make it look more shiny and bright. I asked Harry for a LED strip and he gave me the closeset package of them he had on his desk. It was a WS2812 model that required only connection to GND, 5V and a digital channel so it was easy to implement.

It was not working right away. I had to google some libraries that work with this specific type of LED strip. The best one I found was FastLED and it also geto recommmended to me by one of the technical teachers.

For test I connected the LEDs and a potmeter and wrote a script that maps the length of the strip to the value of the potmeter (0-1023). This also helped me discover the amount of LEDs we can power without the need of an external power supply – between 5 and 6.
