First design prototype

For the demo we though it will be good to have at least small prototype of our shapes.  I had a several ideas about materials and options how to make it.

For the first demo we didn’t really needed all the objects to be done, so I chose the easiest one in my opinion just to visualise the possible shape of the objects.

If you take a look on the poster of “muziek in de straten” you see more rounded and fluid shapes.  Since we are making an installation for this festival, we wanted to fit in not only theme wise (Kleurrijk), but shape wise as well.

For me as for builder it is quite a challenge it is not that easy to make curvy and stable shapes. But for the first prototype it shouldn’t look like a finished product. So, I decided to make it prom plasticine.  The first problem I encountered was that plasticine is not stable without any skeleton and it’s falling apart so easily. Luckily, I had a wooden stick at home, they are not really bendy, but I managed to brake and shape them with tape (one day tape will save the world!!!) and with putting plasticine on top I got a first prototype:

I asked one of my teammates for the feedback, and she said that’s it fine, but I saw how not enthusiastic she was, and I could agree with her, it wasn’t the best representation of our concept. After that it clicked why not to make it from the foil, it easy to shape and it looks way better than plasticine. This time prototype looked way closer to the initial sketch, so I could count it as a decent prototype for the first demo:
